Unlock Akimbo: How to Update Your Proteus Firmware

The Akimbo era has officially arrived. To access native Dual-Link support and run your full modular setup off a single dongle, you’ll need to ensure your hardware is running the latest firmware.

Updating is a quick, seamless process that takes less than two minutes. Here is exactly how to do it.

Before You Start

Hardware Check: This update is specifically designed for the V2 Wireless Dongle. (V1 Dongles does not support the Akimbo firmware).
Stable Connection: Ensure your computer has a stable internet connection during the update.
Controller Sync: Your controller will temporarily unpair during the update. Don't panic—this is normal!

Step 1: Open the Proteus App

Launch the Proteus Controller App.

Step 2: Navigate to the Dongle Menu

On the left-hand sidebar, look for the Dongle Icon. Clicking this will take you into the dedicated hardware management screen.

Step 3: Connect Your Hardware

Physically plug your V2 Wireless Dongle into an open USB port on your computer.

Step 4: Run the Check

Select the button that says "Connect Dongle" The app will scan your device version and compare it against our latest Akimbo-ready build. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to update your firmware

What’s New in This Version?

The "Akimbo" update (Beta) is our biggest firmware breakthrough yet. By updating, you unlock:

Native Dual-Link: Pair two Power Cubes to one single dongle.

Pro Tip: Once the update is complete, unplug and re-plug your dongle to ensure the new firmware is fully initialized.

⚠️ Important: Compatibility Note

We know many of you have been with us since the beginning, so here is how the new Akimbo update interacts with your existing gear:

V1 Dongles: The original V1 Wireless Dongles are not compatible with this firmware update. To unlock native Akimbo features, you will need a V2 Dongle.
V1 Power Cubes: Good news! Your original V1 Power Cubes are fully compatible with the new V2 Dongle and the Akimbo system. You do not need to buy a full controller to enjoy split-play—simply pair your existing V1 cubes to a V2 dongle running the latest firmware. V2 Dongles can be purchased here
